Backspace – January 2011

Triiike works are showing at the backspace arts venue, a cultural initiative of the City of Ballarat. We completed a week of artists residency in the space working on a large work consisting of three canvases. If you’re in the area duck in behind the historical Ballarat Art Gallery on Lydiard Street, entry is free. Closing 25th January, so be quick!

Ben and Sam work on the new canvases.

Illustration + patterns + fabric printing = cushions

Triike set their minds to creating some cushions. Each Triiike artist created elements for a pattern in black and white. This was passed on to the next artist who coloured the illustrations & finally passed on for composing into a pattern. Some quality fabric printing and some ‘darn’ time later, they had cushions. Feel free to contact Triike to purchase.

Quite a cushy project really.

If at first you don’t succeed, ply ply again.

No brief. Just a plywood background & the colour brown. Each member illustrated a componant & then passed on to the next artist, who then adds a little more, slowly formisting the final illustration. Pretty simple, but completely unpredictable… (just the way we like it).

Famous Faces

“You pick a celebrity, he’ll draw it, I’ll do a pattern & we’ll thrown them all together..”, or something like that was the process for these illustrations. Collaboration was the vehicle & famous faces were the passengers. See anyone you know?

Worlds

‘Let’s draw on some photos’ was Triiike’s idea here. Continuing to explore the create medium of illustration, Triiike took some obsure self portrait photographs & then passed them ’round. The usual tag team method of adding illustrative componants, turned these photos into something interesting & unknown. But we still can’t quite see their faces!
